1000 ppm Bleach Calculator
Prefilled at 1 gallon and 1,000 ppm—tweak bleach strength or bottle size without losing accuracy.
Supports milliliters, liters, ounces, and gallons. Enter any custom bottle size and the ppm math recalculates instantly.
Result
For 1,000 ppm using 6% bleach in 1 gal, add 58 mL of bleach, then top up with water to 1 gal.
For aqueous solutions, 1 ppm ≈ 1 mg/L. Volume needs solute density and source concentration to convert from mass.
How it works
Start with a 1 gallon batch at 1,000 ppm—the CDC outbreak disinfecting strength. Adjust the bottle size to scale up or down while staying on target.

Every result includes an instant label download, QR code, and the copy-ready mix line you can stick on the bottle.
Quick doses · 1,000 ppm targets
Assumes 6% unless notedContainer | Bleach strength | Target ppm | Bleach to add | Milliliters |
---|---|---|---|---|
1 gal | 6% | 1,000 | 58 mL | 58 |
1 L | 6% | 1,000 | 15 mL | 15 |
0.5 L | 6% | 1,000 | 8 mL | 8 |
Why this calculator
- Matches common CDC 1000 ppm and food-service 200–500 ppm recipes without manual math.
- Supports 5.25%, 6%, and 8.25% bleach so the density adjustment keeps ppm on target.
- Lets you size any bottle from 100 mL sprayers to 5 gallon buckets while keeping the ratio exact.

FAQs
How much bleach for 1,000 ppm in 1 gallon?
Using 6% bleach, add 58 mL (≈58 mL) and fill the jug to one gallon with water.
How about 1 liter or 500 mL?
For 1 liter, measure 15 mL. Halve it for 500 mL batches.
Can I use stronger bleach?
Yes. Switch the bleach toggle to 8.25% and the calculator reduces the measured volume automatically while keeping 1,000 ppm.
